Age of Empires 4: release date, trailer, gameplay, nations – all the latest details. What is the Age of Empires 4 release date? Here's everything we know about AoE4, from nations to expected. Welcome to my updated review of Oriental Empires. The game has now been out about 2 months and I originally did a review at release day. Months later the game has seen number of improvements + my.
We go way backIn the mid 2000s both John Rodriguez living in Texas and Flo de Haan, living in the Netherlands picked up the idea to expand and develop their favorite game by Francis Tresham: Civilization. Maps grew bigger, accommodating more players, and more development was done. As soon as Flo and John met through a forum, they decided to work together to develop a new bigger game, each on either side of the ocean. A new approach with new original rules, stepping away from the original. In the meantime Gerart de Haan joined, and it took about ten years of development and testing, as 18 players is not a team you gather every week. Own a copy of Mega Civilization?
What’s the difference?Rather than developing a game for 18 players straight, Mega Empires was initially designed as two equally divisible stand alone games, Western Empires and Eastern Empires. Both games could be played stand-alone with 5-9 players, or – big fun – be combined into a single big game: the full Mega Empires. It took a lot of effort to make either side equally balanced, as both maps are completely different. When playing the combined game, either side may appear to completely separated to start with, but as the game evolves civilizations will mix up and player may find their population scattered around the full map.
Errata kitAs some of you may know, 6 Advance cards in Mega Civilization contained some errors. The new updated cards will be printed alongside the production of Western Empires. With the Errata kit you will receive 2 replacement packs, each containing 77 cards. Together with a new and improved manual, these cards will be available to anyone interested who owns a copy of Mega Civilization.
We won’t charge anything and are currently looking for ways to minimize shipping costs for anyone interested. So, if you own Mega Civilization, and if you are interested in the Errata Kit and haven’t already signed up for the new print run on BGG, please make sure to let us know by sending an e-mail to. Upgrade kitWe didn’t put 18 copies of each advance in Mega Civilization as these cards wouldn’t be acquired by so many people during the game. This was a conscious decision to save on production costs and space in the box, both of which were in favour of the selling price. However, we noticed that some of you actually prefer having 18 copies of each advances nonetheless.
Therefore, we have listened to you, the players, and apart from the Errata Kit we will also produce an upgrade kit for Mega Civilization which would make sure that game owners have 18 copies of each advance. This upgrade kit will be up for sale some time in 2019, so keep an eye out on the message boards where will we tell you how to sign up for the upgrade. So, finally, the wheels are set in motion once again. We are very much looking forward to 2019 and you can expect a lot of new and exciting stuff concerning Mega Empires to follow. We consider ourselves lucky to see such an engaged community of fans of the game.
So, please let us know your thoughts on the BGG-forum for Mega Civilization and Western Empires. Flo, John and Gerart will answer your questions. And even though 999 Games may not actively take part in the discussions (as much as we’d like to hang out on BGG all day, unfortunately there is a lot of other work to do) that doesn’t mean that we don’t see or read your comments.
